How to Prep
Set your skin up for success:
- Arrive Bare-Faced: Please come to your appointment with no makeup so we can properly assess your skin and begin with a fresh canvas.
- Avoid Hair Removal Treatments: Avoid Laser Hair Removal, wax, thread, or use of depilatory creams on the treatment area for at least 5–7 days prior to your appointment.
- Avoid Injectables: No Botox, dermal filler, threads, Sculptra, or any injectables within 2 weeks prior to your treatment.
- Limit Sun Exposure: Avoid excessive sun exposure or tanning for at least one week before your treatment. Peels will not be performed on sunburned or compromised skin, including sunless tanning.
- No Active Cold Sores: If you have an active cold sore, please wait until it is fully healed before scheduling your appointment.
- Pregnancy-Safe Options: If you’re pregnant, it's important to let your provider know so we can discuss our pregnancy-safe options. We have gentle yet effective options that are pregnancy-safe, allowing you to maintain your skin health without compromising safety for you or your baby.
- Communicate With Your Provider: Be sure to share any recent changes in your skincare routine, medications, or treatments—such as starting or stopping products with active ingredients, laser, microneedling, or even antibiotics. These factors can significantly impact your skin’s sensitivity and readiness for a Chemical Peel. Stopping sunscreen, introducing new actives, or being on antibiotics can all affect your skin’s response. Keeping us fully informed ensures we prep your skin properly and keep your treatment both safe and effective.
Aftercare & Post-Treatment Tips
Support your skin’s recovery and protect your results:
- Dryness & Peeling: Dryness, peeling, or flakiness may occur depending on the type and strength of the peel selected.
- Skip Makeup for 48-72 Hours: Depending on the peel, you may need to let your skin rest and regenerate without interference.
- Stay Hydrated & Moisturized: Use gentle, hydrating products to maintain your skin barrier and soothe any dryness or tightness.
- Avoid Actives: Depending on the peel, you may need to hold off on retinoids, acids, scrubs, or exfoliating tools for at least 5–7 days or until your provider clears you to resume.
- Protect with SPF: Your skin will be more sensitive to UV rays—wear broad-spectrum SPF daily and reapply throughout the day.
- Post-Care Varies by Peel: Each Chemical Peel has its own specific aftercare instructions based on the depth and ingredients used. Your provider will give you tailored guidance to ensure optimal healing and results.

FAQ'S
A Chemical Peel is a professional skin treatment that uses acids or enzymes to exfoliate the outer layers of your skin. It helps fade pigmentation, smooth texture, reduce fine lines, and decongest pores by removing the top layer, encouraging fresh skin to come to the surface.
Not always. Some lighter peels exfoliate below the surface without visible shedding, while stronger peels can cause noticeable flaking for several days. Peeling is a side effect, not the goal, so don’t worry if you don’t shed like a snake.
We’ll guide you on exactly what to expect based on the peel we use. Just remember: even if you don’t see peeling, your skin is still renewing underneath. We focus on long-term skin health, not dramatic short-term reactions. What matters most is how your skin looks and feels in the weeks after.
That’s what your initial consultation is for! We’ll assess your skin, discuss your concerns, and choose a peel that fits your tone, texture, and tolerance. Whether you’re battling breakouts, melasma, aging, or dullness, we have a solution that targets your goals without overwhelming your skin.
Every treatment is personalized—no one-size-fits-all here. Our goal is to deliver results you can see without compromising the integrity of your skin. You’ll leave with a plan that’s designed just for you.
Yes! In fact, we often treat clients with sensitive or reactive skin using enzyme-based or lactic acid peels. We always start with a gentle approach, and if your skin needs extra TLC, we’ll adjust the strength and contact time to avoid irritation.
Safety, comfort, and results are our top priorities. We also do patch tests if needed to ensure your skin feels calm, not compromised. Even delicate skin can benefit from regular exfoliation when it’s done right. We’ll make sure your treatment feels soothing, not stressful.
Downtime depends on the strength of the peel. Some treatments have zero visible peeling, while others might involve 3–7 days of light flaking, dryness, or tightness, or up to 5-10 days of intense shedding. Either way, we’ll give you a detailed aftercare plan and check in with you as your skin goes through its healing phase.
Hydration and SPF are your best friends post-peel. You’ll want to avoid sun exposure and keep things simple during recovery to let your skin do its thing. Most clients find the downtime very manageable.
If you're on prescription acne medications like Accutane, please note we do not treat clients currently taking it. Other products, like strong retinoids, exfoliants, or antibiotics, can increase your skin’s sensitivity and risk of irritation.
At Savanna Boda Aesthetics, we provide a customized skincare regimen that is safe to continue leading up to your treatment. As long as you're following your personalized plan and communicating any changes, you're set up for success. Always bring a list of your current medications and skincare products so we can tailor your peel safely—our goal is progress, not irritation.
The ideal frequency depends on your skin goals and how your skin responds. While many clients see great results with peels every 4–6 weeks, others may benefit from seasonal refreshers or a focused series, especially for concerns like acne or pigmentation. Acne clients often come in every 2–4 weeks for more targeted support.
During your consultation, we’ll build a custom plan that works with your skin, schedule, and goals. Consistency is everything if you're aiming for long-term results—think of it like the gym for your skin. The more regular the maintenance, the better and more lasting the transformation.
It’s best to skip makeup for at least 48–72 hours post-treatment. Your skin will be in recovery mode and needs time to heal and absorb moisture without any added stress. Once the healing phase is over, you’ll likely be glowing so hard that you won’t even feel like putting on foundation. When you do go back to makeup, we’ll help you choose products that support your results.
Giving your skin a break from makeup helps maximize the benefits of the peel. You might even fall in love with your bare face all over again. That said, some of our lighter peels may allow for makeup the same evening—your provider will let you know what’s best based on the peel you receive.
